The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
