Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” Slot commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

The manager highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
