Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is unclear and the American officials has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
