A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was approached by three individuals, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, according to authorities.

Police said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises near the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the building supervising the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.
"The report indicates the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement said.
Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the assault.
