This new direction follows major restructuring at the publicly-funded organization, including the departure of its former chief executive last month after both workforce dissatisfaction and official demands for strategic overhaul.

Rising Online Risks

The latest project comes amid growing concern about the UK's exposure to online disruptions and online threats.

A previous senior officer of the Britain's aerial defense command will deliver recommendations next month on how the government-funded institute can best support the extent of national AI objectives in defense, national security and intelligence.

The organization's leader, a ex-Amazon UK executive, confirmed that multiple research initiatives at the organization with 440 employees have been closed, spun out or finished because they do not align with the new direction.

Workplace Issues

The institute has faced internal strife since last year as staff protested against reforms, culminating in a team of staff members submitting a formal grievance to the appropriate oversight organization.
