Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
